Photo Elements 5
Photoshop Elements is Adobe's photo-editing software for amateur photographers, digital imaging enthusiasts, and small business users. As the name implies, Photoshop Elements is built around core elements of Photoshop but excludes some of the more advanced, professional-level features. The Windows version also includes a powerful, integrated photo organizer. At just £59 this is a great piece of kit. I prepare all my galleries with Elements.
Pros
- Now has 'curves', albeit in RGB.
- Expertly bundles photo organizing, editing, and sharing into a complete package.
- Balances ease of use and flexibility. It's beginner friendly but not oversimplified.
- Face Tagging feature saves time tagging the people in your pictures.
- New creation layouts have can be fully customized.
- Use bundled art work, frames, backgrounds.
- Based on 16 years of Photoshop development by Adobe, the leader in digital imaging software.
Cons
- Very sluggish performance and screen flickering when switching modes and drawing screen elements.
- New, Open, Save, Undo and Redo buttons have been removed from the shortcut bar.
- Some may not like the change to Flash-based Web galleries. I liked the 'classic' html web albums V 4 produced.
- Some gallery customizations removed.
- Some print-at-home projects have been replaced with online services.
- Poor success rate with the new automatic red eye detection and correction feature.
