Here are some technical guides and tips...

Tech Guide 1 - Selective Image Editing for Skin Brightness and Color Revolutionary new U PointTM technology features non-destructive image editing with speed and quality with no complicated selections. One of the most requested of all the topics related to image editing is correcting for dark/light faces or images where faces are off-color due to bad lighting or conditions such as a sunburn. Capture NX is the world’s first product to introduce U Point™ technology by Nik Software Inc. which addresses these issues in a simple-to-use manner.

Tech Guide 2 - In Capture NX, images can be edited globally and selectively. Global adjustments are applied to the entire image, while selective adjustments affect only a part of the image. There are two general methods for making local adjustments to images in Capture NX. The first is through selective application of Edit Steps using the various selection tools, like the brush or gradient tools. The second method of making local adjustments utilizes
an entirely new image editing technology called U Point. U Point technology is a feature that sets Capture NX apart from other image editing software.

Tech Guide 3 - Correcting color, contrast, and saturation are among the most necessary and often used adjustments in today’s digital photography. Images require varying amounts of correction from the need to increase or decrease contrast to the adjustment of color and saturation. Capture NX offers several options that are easy to apply and will make using image editing software less of an obstacle and more of a successful experience.

Tech Guide 4 - Using the many options available in the Browser within Capture NX offers you the ability to save time and effort when sorting, cataloging, and batch processing image files. As with all of the features in Capture NX, the image Browser has been designed to be an intuitive and powerful tool.

Tech Guide 5 - One of the reasons why Capture NX is a powerful image editing tool is its ability to make selective adjustments to an image. Instead of applying an effect to the entire image (a global adjustment), you can instead choose to apply an effect to just a small part of your image. Any tool that is applied in an Edit Step in Capture NX can be applied locally using one of several Selection Tools.

Tech Tips 1 - Since the inception of digital photography image retouch artists, editors and photographers all over the world have learned there is a system that must be followed in order to produce the highest quality work possible in a timely manner. From the moment the photograph is taken until it is printed there are a series of steps that must be per formed in order to be efficient and achieve the highest image quality possible.

Tech Tips 2 - This quick Tech Tip will seem like a simplistic approach to image editing. However, if you consider this concept and take the time to try this exercise, the image editing process will go faster, more efficient and can be more exact.

Tech Tips 3 - When photographers are faced with a scene that has too much dynamic range to capture on film or digital, they often use a graduated neutral density filter (ND Grad) to compensate. These filters darken part of the image, which helps to even out the overall exposure. If you don’t have a set of ND Grad filters, here is a quick way to emulate the same effect in Capture NX using the Selection Gradient tool.

Tech Tips 4 - Capture NX has been developed as the premier RAW file processor from Nikon. Maintaining the highest possible image quality during RAW file processing has been at the forefront of Nikon’s R & D efforts presented in this extraordinary software which includes features and functionality that rivals or betters anything on the market. The RAW file conversions from Capture NX result in the highest quality imaging available.

Tech Tips 5 - The double threshold tool in Capture NX allows you to evaluate your image to find its darkest and lightest parts. The ability to objectively find the darkest and lightest pixel in an image is useful because you can then use that information to set the black and white points of your image with the levels/curves tool or the LCH editor.

Tech Tips 6 - In a previous lesson we discussed the benefits of the patented U Point® technology within Capture NX. The selective nature of the Color Control Points offers you the ability to make subtle or major changes in your images without the need for complicated selections or masking. When combined with the Color Picker found in Capture NX you have even more options available.
